  • According to reports, around 120 Yemeni security forces were killed and over 350 others were injured in a suicide bomb attack on Yemen's parade rehearsal in capital Saana on May 21, 2012. The suicide bomber, a suspected al Qaeda militant, reportedly infiltrated into the parade and blew himself up at one of the battalions participating in the parade. 1 No organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is widely believed that it may be the work of al Qaeda as the country's new political leadership has stepped up its fight against the militants holding large parts in the southern of the country. 2

In another incident, according to reports, 13 people including three children were killed when a suicide attacker drove an explosives-packed car into a post held by Shiite Houthi rebels in Al-Jawf province in north Yemen on May 24, 1012. 3

In other developments, according to reports, around 22 al Qaeda militants were killed in overnight clashes and an air strike in southern Yemen by the security forces on May 27, 2012. Around 15 terrorists were killed in the northern part of Jaar, a town in Abyan province that has been controlled by the al Qaeda since last year. The bodies of seven other militants were found in a factory located west of Jaar after it was attacked by a Yemeni warplane on May 26 . 4
