  • According to reports, North Korea has recently pledged to conduct another nuclear test if the US, along with its allies, continue to insist on imposing stricter sanctions against Pyongyang over its nuclear and missile programmes. This is the first time the North has referred to the possibility of a nuclear test after its recent attempt to launch a rocket-driven satellite, which was widely suspected to be the North’s covert test of missile technology. 1

In another development, Glyn Davies, US Special representative for North Korea policy, during his recent visit to China, held talks with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying as well as with Wu Dawei, China’s special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs. During those talks, both the parties reaffirmed their cooperation in preventing North Korea from taking further provocative action after the North’s recent failed attempt to launch its so-called rocket-driven satellite. 2
