  • A Sri Lankan delegation consisted of Rauff Hakeem, Minister of Justice, Dilan Perera, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion & Welfare, Gitanjana Gunawardana, Deputy Minister of Finance and Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, Monitoring MP for External Affairs attended the XVI Ministerial Conference and Commemorative Meeting marking the 50th Anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Bali, Indonesia held from 25-27 May. On the sidelines of the summit, a series of bilateral meetings were also held by members of the Sri Lanka delegation.1

    Reports noted that External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris met Mr. Yang Jiechi, Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, at the Foreign Ministry in Beijing on May 24. While, a two–member parliamentary delegation from Pakistan visited Sri Lanka from May 25-29 in a bid to find ways and means to further strengthen the link between the legislators of the two countries.2

    In other developments, the Sri Lanka Government and the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg have concluded negotiations on an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and for the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and on capital. This agreement will come into effect with the completion of necessary procedural and protocol formalities by both governments.3
