Maoists kill sixteen police personnel in Maharashtra

  • Maoist guerrillas ambushed a police team on May 16 after luring them into the jungles of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra, killing 16 of them. The police party had gone to the hills to clear the Dhanora-Murumgaon road, which was blocked by the Maoists by felling trees. As the police team reached the spot and started clearing the roads, the guerrillas hiding in the forest opened indiscriminate fire. Police personnel returned the fire and in the ensuing gun battle, 16 police personnel lost their lives1.
