Militants enter in Kupwara; Police officer shot dead at Pulwama, South Kashmir

  • According to reports, Army on May 8 launched searches in Shamshawari forest Range near Line of Control (LoC) in frontier district of Kupwara to track down a group of militants that ostensibly crossed over to this side on May 7. According to sources, this is the first militant group which was spotted near Line of Control (LoC) in this sector this year. Three Army units, 6/11 GR, 16 Grenadiers, 9 Para and Special Operation Group (SOG) of JK Police are carrying out the massive searches of the dense forests. Army has also cordoned off the adjacent areas and additional reinforcements have been rushed to assist the forces. 1

    In another development, according to reports, suspected militants on May 10 shot dead a police officer in the South Kashmir town of Pulwama. 2
