  • Reports noted that, Acting British High Commissioner Mr Robbie Bulloch paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed on May 3, 2012. During the meeting, President Dr Waheed spoke on events which lead to the transition of power on 7 February and also highlighted work done by the government to resolve the political challenges faced following the transition of power. 1

    In another development, President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that the toll on the global environment, from unsustainable policies and actions is very evident, and that the consequences of environmental neglect are at a point that it is not debatable anymore. The President made this remark while delivering his keynote address at the opening ceremony of the CANSO Asia-Pacific Conference 2012 held on May 2, 2012 at Kurumba Maldives. 2

    In other developments, reports noted that Ambassador of Iran accredited to the Maldives, Mohammed Nabi Hassani-Pour, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed on April 30, 2012. The meeting was held at the President’s Office. At the meeting, discussions were held on the close bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to further strengthen the mutual cooperation. 3
