  • According to reports, Russia and India have signed an agreement on training Indian deck-based aircraft pilots. The agreement stipulates Russian pilots training their Indian colleagues who will fly on board Russia’s MiG-29K/KUB fighter jets. 1

    In another development, according to reports, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry have discussed over telephone, the prevailing situation in Syria. 2

    Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has expressed hope that the League of Arab States will correct its position on Syria. Russia’s position has been that there is no alternative to political settlement and it can be based only on national consensus, which can be achieved through inclusive dialogue between the Syrians, the authorities and the opposition. 3

    Russia's Emergencies Ministry has sent two planes with a 26-tonne humanitarian aid onboard to Syria. The batch mainly contains food staff, essentials and medical equipment. 4

    In other developments, according to reports, Russia’s Pacific Fleet, consisting of an anti-submarine ship and two landing ships will round off a routine visit in the Iranian port Bandar Abbas on April 24, will enter the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal in May and call at the Syrian port Tartus during the same period. 5

    President Vladimir Putin has said that Russian security services will provide help to their colleagues in the United States in their investigation of Boston terror attacks. 6

    Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has expressed hope that during his upcoming visit to Moscow on April 28-30, Japan and Russia will make a new start to the negotiations on a bilateral peace treaty. 7

    Gazprom has warned European companies against what it alleges are illicit re-sale of Russian gas to Ukraine. Russia ships more than half its gas exports to Europe via Ukraine, which is tied to a disputed long-term contract with Gazprom at prices which are often higher than those paid by buyers in the European Union. Ukraine began importing small volumes of gas from Europe last year and wants to buy up to 8 billion cubic meters of gas a year from central Europe to replace expensive Russian supplies. 8

    President Putin has said that the fifth-generation T-50 fighter jet will enter service with the country’s armed forces in 2016. 9
