  • According to reports, Jammu and Kashmir Government has voiced concern over the reported Chinese incursion in its Ladakh area and has taken up the matter with the union government. Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo said that the state government had written to the Centre about it. 1

    In another development, according to reports, in the backdrop of Chinese incursion in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, Army Chief General Bikram Singh will be arriving in Jammu on April 23 on a two-day visit to the state to review the security situation. General Singh will have meeting with the Northern Command Army Commander Lt Gen K T Parnaik besides other senior officials. 2

    Reports noted that with the arrest of top Lashkar-e-Toiba Commander Fahadullah in Sopore, North Kashmir on April 22 and subsequent arrests made based on his revelations, many cases which include the Doabgah murder case, killing of Sarpanch at Palhallan and killing of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie at Kunzer Tangmarg have been solved. Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Abdul Ghani Mir said that the LeT module that had been perpetuating different militant activities, including dozens of grenade attacks, in and around Sopore has been busted. 3

    According to reports, J&K police on April 25 claimed that it arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujhahideen (HM) and recovered four Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from them. Police along with 40 battalion of the CRPF and Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles arrested two OGWs of the outfit from Kokernag in South Kashmir. 4
    However, according to reports, four policemen including two Special Police Officials (SPO) were killed in a suspected militant ambush in Hygam area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on April 26. 5

    Reports noted that N N Vohra was appointed as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on April 27 for a fresh five-year term. The term of Shri Vohra, who took over as Governor of the state in 2008 was to end on June 25 this year. 6

    In other developments, according to reports, suspected militants opened fire and lobbed a grenade on a party of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police in Nowgam area of Srinagar on April 28. However, no loss of life was reported. 7

    In another incident, according to reports, militants shot at and injured a Sarpanch in Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on April 28. Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, owed affiliation to ruling National Conference. It would be worth noting that militants have targeted several Panchayat members, killing six of them, in the Valley since the Panchayat elections were held in April 2011. 8
