  • Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa went to Bangladesh on April 18 on a three-day official visit. This was his first official visit to Bangladesh.1 Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka signed five deals in the fields of trade, agriculture, fisheries, vocational education, and science and culture in a bid to diversify bilateral cooperation, during the Presidential visit.2
    However, Housing and Constriction Minister of Kenya Petrer Soita Shitanda met his Sri Lankan counterpart Minister Wimal Weerawansa in Nairobi on April 17 and informed him that Kenya had decided to use Sri Lankan model for the development of housing.3
    Meanwhile, reports noted that the government of Qatar has agreed to increase its quota for ‘skilled workers’ from Sri Lanka.4 In other developments, two Japanese ship ‘Kirisame’ and ‘Yuudachi’ with Commander 7th Escort Division Captain Hiroshi Ito on board arrived at the port of Colombo on April 19 on a two-day goodwill visit.5 While, two Brunei Naval Patrol Vessels, ‘KDB Darussalam’ and ‘KDB Darulehsan’ arrived at the Port of Colombo for a logistic halt on April 21, 2011.6
