  • Three socio-religious organizations namely, Sout-ul-Haq, Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba dismiss the claims of police that they were involved in the killing of President of Jamiet Ahl-e-Hadith Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah. The organizations demanded impartial probe into the killing from an independent international tribune.1 However, clashes broke out in old Srinagar after the sit-in protest against the killing of Moulana Showkat Ahmed Shah ended. Eyewitnesses’ said that youth took to streets and pelted stones on the cops after the separatist leaders left the area.2

    Meanwhile, reports noted that two BSF personnel were hurt in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast near the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The IED blast was triggered by militants during BSF patrolling in Sonagali area in Poonch district.3 However, in Jammu’s Kishtwar district two militants were killed in a gunbattle with the forces. A search operation by the Rashtriya Rifles and police was launched in Sarawa forest belt in which the militants fired on the soldiers resulting in the gunfight.4

    In other incidents, two militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in a gunfight with forces in Ramban district, while army claimed that it foiled an infiltration bid in Poonch district. Forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, 160 rounds, 10 Chinese grenades, a satellite phone, a mobile phone, a pair of binoculars and a compass from their hideout.5
