According to reports, problems with a parts supplier and the need to modify certain design features have led to the delay in the US Navy’s commissioning of the new nuclear-powered attack submarine North Dakota. The delay is a blow to the Virginia-class submarine program, which has earned a reputation not only for on-time performance, but for delivering ships in advance of the contracted delivery date.1
