Assistant Sub-Inspector shot dead in old city; Police arrested Bijbehara car blast mastermind

    According to reports, suspected militants killed a police officer at police post-Bagyas-Chattabal, near Darish Kadal in the old city. Soon after the incident police and paramilitary CRPF men reached the spot and launched searches to track the assailants. Militant outfit Islamic Front claimed the responsibility for attack. 1

    In another development, according to reports, police claimed to have achieved a major break through by arresting the Divisional Commander of Hizbul-Mujahideen, a master mind in the Bijbehara car blast. Addressing a news conference in the South Kashmir district, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, S M Sahai said, that the militant named Latif was active in the Awantipora area for past four years and was involved in many militancy related activities including Bijbehara car blast in which one person was killed and 21 others sustained injuries last month. 2
