    According to the Bangladesh National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Prof Mizanur Rahman, Bangladesh will have to explain disappearances of people in the country before United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC). Bangladesh will have to attend the Universal Periodic Review session in January next year and submit a report on human rights situation in the country, NHRC Chairman Rahman told reporters in the capital. 1
    In another development, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia assured the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka that her party was committed to build good relations with India through resolving outstanding problems between the two countries. She expressed the view when the Indian diplomat, Pankaj Saran, made a courtesy call on her at her Gulshan office in the capital around 8:30pm on April 19, 2012. 2

    Reports noted that the United Nations nominated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina along with 26 global leaders in a Lead Group for the global Scaling Up Nutrition (Sun) movement to fight against child and maternal malnutrition. 3
    According to reports, Bangladesh and the United States during their substantive dialogue on security issues agreed to enhance partnership in the UN peacekeeping, counterterrorism and disaster management. Both sides at the first-ever US-Bangladesh Dialogue on Security Issues exchanged views on the ongoing engagement between the two countries in the areas of counterterrorism, disaster management, maritime security and peacekeeping operations and shared commitment to peace, security and prosperity in the region. 4

    In other developments, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left for Qatar on April 20, 2012 on a four-day visit to attend the 13th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIII). 5
    According to reports, Brazil will contribute 7,000 metric tonnes of rice, valued at US$ 3.3 million, for people living in the most disaster-prone areas of Bangladesh through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). 6
