Secular Alliance wants Iranian support

  • The Sunni-backed secular coalition that was placed first in Iraq’s parliamentary elections sought to garner Iranian support by stating that it would never let Iraq be used as a launching pad for an attack on its Shiite neighbor. The announcement came on the heels of a surprise statement in the previous week by Iran’s ambassador in Baghdad urging Iraq’s major coalitions to play a constructive role in the formation of a new government.1
