Reports noted that the US government purchased 22 Russian Mi-17CT helicopters (NATO codename “Hip-H”) worth $80.6 million for the use of the Iraqi government. The helicopters can be used for both military and civilian purposes. Russia has till date produced more than 11,000 Mi-17 helicopters and exported them to more than 80 countries. The helicopter can carry 32 passengers or four tones of cargo and its six hard points are capable of carrying bombs, rockets and gun pods weighing up to up to 1,500 kgs1.
