Indian Army to induct Block-II version of Brahmos misile

  • Following a few days of uncertainty due to a test evaluation process, reports noted that the Indian Army acceded to the induction of the Block-II version of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile, which can be used to undertake precision attacks in urban environments. Lt. Gen. Noble Thamburaj, Vice-Chief of the Army Satff, who witnessed the third and latest test stated that the test was “extremely successful” as opposed to the first flight test on January 20, 2009. The Army and the Navy have already started incorporating in their order of battle the Block-I version of the BrahMos missile. The Navy on its part has placed an order of 49 BrahMos Block-I missiles at a cost of Rs. 711 crore, while the Army placed an order worth Rs. 8,352 crore rupees for 134 missiles mounted over 10 Tatra mobile launchers and four mobile command posts1.
