US and North Korean nuclear envoys meet in Singapore, differences narrowed down; State Department officials to visit North Korea soon

  • Top nuclear envoys of the US and North Korea met in Singapore in a bid to kick start the stalled Six-Party negotiations. Following the meeting, US Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill stated that some progress had been made to narrow the differences between the two parties. The meeting generated hopes that North Korea would make a declaration on its nuclear activities very soon1.

    In other developments, officials from the US State Department are expected to visit North Korea or a final round of negotiations meant to resolve a dispute that has stalled any progress on North Korean nuclear disarmament. The date and the venue of the meeting are however yet to be finalised2.
