    According to reports, Maldives Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam made a four day visit to India. During his visit, he met with India’s military leadership, including Defence Minister A. K. Antony and the armed forces chiefs. During the meetings, the two sides discussed ways to enhance defence ties including the steps needed for strengthening Maldivian armed forces. 1

    An another development, reports noted that Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has returned to Male, following the conclusion of his official visit to Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia on February 6, 2014. During his visit, the Vice President met with the Prime Minister, the Health Minister, and the Islamic Minister of Qatar. He also met with the Chairman of the Interfaith Dialog Centre of Qatar, and Qatari entrepreneurs. As part of his visit to Kuwait, the Vice President met with the Emir, the Crown Prince, the Prime Minister, the Health Minister, and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait. During his visit to Saudi Arabia, the Vice President met with the Imaam of the Grand Mosque of Makkah. 2

    Reports noted that Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon made a one-day working visit to Kuala Lumpur on February 4, 2014. During the visit, she met with the staff of the Maldivian High and the Maldivian nationals living in Malayasia at the Maldives High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. 3
    In other developments, according to reports, on January 22, 2014 Maldives former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Shaheed and United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions Christof Heyns called on the government of Iran to urgently halt the abrupt surge in hangings in the country since the start of 2014.” 4

    Reports noted that Maldives’ Ambassador at large Abdulla Hameed attended the 14th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit organized by “The Energy and Resources Institute” in Delhi, as the Special Envoy of the President of Maldives from February 6-8, 2014 . The Special Envoy is accompanied by Amjad Abdulla, Director General of Climate Change of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Maldives and Shiuneen Rasheed, Assistant Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maldives. 5
