  • Even as the government assured proportional representation to the minorities and the Madhesi groups in police, army and public enterprises, it invited the United Madhesi Democratic Front (UMDF) - an alliance of the three agitating Madhesi parties comprising Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Sadbhawana Party and Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party, for talks on the Terai issue1. The twenty-two point agreement agreed upon by the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) was stated to be the focal point of the discussions2. In a recent statement however, the Prime-Minister and the SPA have rejected the right to self-determination of the Madhesis and stated that the concerns of the groups would be addressed in the aftermath of the CA polls3.

Maoist leader Prachanda meanwhile has stated that a political revolution needed to be given precedence before an economic revolution was launched in Nepal4.
