    The UN Security Council welcomed Yemen’s decision to launch the National Dialogue Conference and said that it should be conducted in an “inclusive manner involving the full participation of all segments of Yemeni society”. The Council added that it was ready to consider further measures including under Article 41 of the UN Charter if actions continued to undermine the Government of National Unity and the political transition. .1

    Meanwhile, the UN Security Council strongly condemned the nuclear test carried out by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and warned that it constitutes a threat to international peace and security. .2

    According to reports, the UNSC extended the mandate of the panel of experts monitoring UN sanctions imposed on Sudan in connection with the conflict in Darfur for another year until February 17, 2014. Meanwhile, the Council also extended the mandate of the UN political mission in Burundi to support peace and long-term development in the country and to redouble efforts to tackle corruption for another year until February 15, 2014. .3

    In other developments, at the 10th Meeting of the India-US Joint Working Group on UN Peacekeeping Operations, ways to improve the operations were discussed. The Working Group was established as a means of exchanging views on policy and operations in an effort to improve UN peacekeeping operations. .4
