    According to reports, Pakistan conducted a successful test fire of Short Range to Surface Missile Hatf IX (NASR) on February 11, said a press release by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The test fire was conducted with successive launches of two missiles from a state of the art multi-tube launcher. NASR, with a range of 60km, and in-flight manoeuvre capability can carry nuclear warheads of appropriate yield, with high accuracy, said the press release. NASR has also been specially designed to defeat all known Anti-Tactical Missile Defence Systems. 1

    Reports noted that Pakistan on February 15 conducted a test fire of the short range surface to surface ballistic missile, Hatf-II (Abdali), an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release stated. Hatf II – with a range of 180 km – can carry nuclear as well as conventional warheads with high accuracy. The test comes a few days after the missile test of Hatf-IX (NASR). 2

    In other developments, according to reports, President Asif Ali Zardari has said that consensus will be achieved on the caretaker government and date for elections. In an interview to BBC Urdu‚ he said the interim government would comprise non-controversial people and no-one would be able to question their sincerity. He said polls would be held on time and the caretaker government would have complete authority as envisaged in the Constitution to hold free and transparent polls. 3
