HAL demands $10.5 million from BAE for AJT Hawk troubles

  • Reports noted that HAL has demanded compensation worth $10.5 million from UK’s BAE Systems for the ‘troubles’ in assembling the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT). India had signed a contract with BAE systems in 2004 under which 24 aircrafts were to be delivered off-the-shelf while 42 were to be assembled by HAL. During the assembly, the HAL faced problems in re-tooling and re-designing the components supplied, resulting in delay in its delivery schedule.1
