  • US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called on Sunday for “an orderly transition” to a more politically open Egypt, but stopped short of asking its embattled president, Hosni Mubarak, to step down. Meanwhile, US President Obama spoke to the leaders in the region, including King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and reinforced this position. Reports noted that Obama administration has walked a fine line in recent days in balancing its alliance with President Mubarak, a crucial partner in Middle East peace talks and with its desire not to be on the wrong side of history. However, Clinton’s comments suggested that the Obama administration was running out of patience with the Egyptian leader.1
