  • According to reports, Bahrain police fired tear gas on January 19, 2013 to disperse Shiite protesters who were protesting in the streets of the capital Manama chanting anti-government slogans. The protesters attempted to march in small groups in the narrow alleys of central Manama, as riot police fired tear gas canisters and stun grenades. Some protesters reportedly also staged demonstrations outside Manama as they failed to reach the capital due to a heavy security cordon. Police has arrested several protesters while the government has said that the demonstration had not been authorised and warned security forces would prevent such protests. 1
