  • According to reports, President Karzai has said that immunity for US soldiers remaining in Afghanistan after 2014 will be decided by Afghan elders at Loya Jirga. Earlier, during the talks with Karzai in Washington DC last week, US President Barack Obama had warned that no American troops would remain behind in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of NATO forces in 2014 unless they were granted immunity from prosecution in local courts.1

In another development, according to reports, the Afghan Intelligence headquarters in Kabul has been attacked by a squad of suicide bombers in which two guards were killed and dozens were injured. The National Directorate of Security is playing increasingly important role in the war against Taliban as US and NATO prepare to withdraw. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. 2
