    Russia has reaffirmed its support to Lakhdar Brahimi as the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States for the Syrian Crisis. 2

    Russia has commissioned the nuclear-powered submarine Yuri Dolgoruky of Borei Class in its Northern Fleet. This is the first strategic missile submarine to be launched in seventeen years since the end of the Soviet era and is a Russian (rather than Soviet) vessel. 5

    In other developments, according to reports, Russia will start building two Borei Class submarines in July and November 2013 respectively. These will be the fifth and sixth number in the serial production of the Borei class submarines. A total of 8 Borei class submarines will be built till 2020. 6
