UNSC fixes date for filling vacancy in International Court of Justice; UN Secretary General condemns deadly attacks in Nigeria

  • Reports noted that the UN Security Council has fixed April 27, 2012 as the date for an election to fill the vacancy on the International Court of Justice (ICJ), after a judge recently resigned from the body. The judge will be chosen by coordinated actions of both the Council and the General Assembly. 1

    In another development, the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the multiple attacks across the northern Nigerian city of Kano which caused large-scale casualties and massive destruction of property. While voicing his solidarity with the Government and people of Nigeria, Ban also sent out his condolences to the bereaved families. 2
