Student killed in protest in Baramulla; Police busted LeT and HM modules in Bandipora; One killed and five injured in militant attacks in Sopore

  • According to reports, a student was killed and two persons injured when Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel guarding National Hydroelectric Power Corporation projects in Kashmir opened fire on people protesting against power shortage in Boniyar area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district. Police immediately arrested five CISF personnel allegedly involved in the firing while the state Government lodged a protest with the Union Home Ministry. Facing acute shortage of power in the areas including Kichama, Gantmula and Boniyar, Boniyar residents were staging protests outside NHPC-run Uri-I power project. 1

    Meanwhile, according to reports, State Police claimed to have busted two militant modules allegedly responsible in various target killings in Sonawari area of this north Kashmir district. Superintendent of Police Bandipora Bashir Ahmed Khan and Additional Superintendent of Police Shemsher Hussain said in a joint press conference that after strenuous efforts, police arrested six youths in two separate raids from Hajin area of Bandipora affiliated with Hizbul Mujahedeen (HM) and Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfits. 2

    In other developments, reports noted that a civilian was killed and five others including two policemen injured in north Kashmir’s Sopore town in a spate of militant attacks, police said. The town witnessed three attacks within a span of 30 minutes. 3
