    Bangladesh celebrated the 41st anniversary of victory in the Liberation War on December 16, 2012.1

    Reports noted that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed an agreement with Bangladesh to provide a loan of US$160 million to help the country develop sustainable urban public transport systems in greater Dhaka on December 17, 2012. The assistance will help build a 20km bus rapid transit (BRT) route in Dhaka North City Corporation and Gazipur City Corporation areas, which form part of northern Greater Dhaka. 2

    According to reports, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra arrived in Dhaka on a two-day official visit on December 21, 2012. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received Shinawatra at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. She was given a guard of honour there. The Thai PM is leading a 108-member delegation, including Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom, Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul and PM's Office Ministers Niwatthamrong Boonsongpaisan and Sansanee Nakpong. Shinawatra also had talks with Opposition Leader and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Foreign Minister Dipu Moni before leaving for Bangkok on December 22. 3

    In other developments, Bangladesh's foreign exchange reserves hit a record high of $12.4 billion on December 18, breaking the October figure of $12.36 billion. 4
