  • North Korea’s recent launch of what is effectively a long-range ballistic missile on December 12, 2012 has been strongly condemned by the Japanese government. The missile reportedly passed through airspace west of the Okinawa prefecture. Tokyo protested the launch and declared it as “a grave provocation.” 1

In the wake of North Korea’s recent missile launch, the US has started consulting both its alliance partners-Japan and South Korea-in drafting a resolution or toughening the UN sanctions. The three are reportedly considering the possibility of prohibiting banking transactions with certain banks in North Korea and reinforcement of cargo inspections. 2
