Defence Minister A.K. Antony informed the Rajya Sabha that MBT Arjun’s power-pack comprising of engine and transmission was imported from Germany while the armament system was indigenously developed. The engine of the Tejas aircraft was also fully imported from the US, which also supplies, along with Israel, France, Italy and the UK, 30 per cent of the aircraft’s avionics.

Mr. Antony noted that India was taking steps to involve international players to support the further development of indigenous Kaveri engine developed by DRDO for Tejas and the indigenous power-pack for Arjun. 1
