  • At the first plenary session of the 18th Chinese Party Congress, Xi Jinping was elected as the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.1

    Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao left Beijing for Phnom Penh to attend meeting of the East Asian leaders scheduled from November 18 to 21, 2012. 2

    President Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission, have urged the Chinese army under the CPC's command to be absolutely loyal and accomplish historic missions. 3

    In other developments, China and the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have agreed to keep working towards establishing a code of conduct for the South China Sea. This was announced by Hong Lei, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson. 4
