  • Reports noted that the Indian Air Force’s advanced landing ground (ALG) which was established at Vijaynagar in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh in the wake of the Chinese aggression of 1962 was reopened on Friday with Governor J. J. Singh inaugurating it. The reopening followed an extensive renovation of the original runway. With extensive repairs undertaken and the entire PSP-sheet runway surface replaced by a cement and concrete runway, the ALG will now facilitate routine and regular air maintenance, an IAF spokesman said. ALG at Vijaynagar is strategically located at the tri juncture of India, China and Myanmar in eastern Arunachal Pradesh. It is one of the six such ALGs in Arunachal Pradesh that have been upgraded and renovated. “The IAF has since been entrusted with the responsibility of developing the ALGs in Arunachal Pradesh with the dual purpose of giving a boost to local area development and enhancing military capabilities,” an IAF press note quoted Air Marshal S Varthaman as saying. He also said that since Vijaynagar was only accessible by air, the revival of this ALG would provide immense relief to the local population. 1

Meanwhile, in another development, the housing project developed by Air Force Naval Housing Board (AFNHB) for the armed forces personnel at Mohali was inaugurated on Wednesday by air officer in charge (administration), Indian Air Force and AFNHB chairman Air Marshal J N Burma.
