Reports noted that 400 Indian Army soldiers would join the same number of American soldiers in the United States next year from May 3 to 17, to hold a joint annual military exercise "Yudh Abhyas". Lt Gen Francis J Wiercinski, the commanding general of US Army Pacific in Hawaii, told the Fayetteville Observer in an interview that the purpose of the exercise will be bilateral operations, the exchange of ideas and developing the ability to work side by side. Noting that the US has a "budding relationship" with India, Wiercisnki said, "For years, we did not work together. Now, we are re-establishing a relationship. It's a very good relationship. They have a tremendously professional army, a lot of the same equipment.” 1
In another development, reports noted that BNS (Bangladesh Naval Ship) Bangabandhu entered Kochi port on November 2. The modern frigate and veritably the Flag Ship of Bangladesh Navy was on en route to Doha to participate in Exercise Ferocious Falcon. The two sides expressed hopes about better relations between the two neighbours. In this regard, Vice Admiral Satish Soni, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command expressed the readiness of the Indian Navy to train more officers from Bangladesh Navy in various training establishments of the Indian Navy. 2
