    The Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Li Yong on November 10 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. During the meeting Xi said that China is committed to support the development of other developing countries and contribute to the realization of United Nations' Millennium Development Goals.1

    The Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee started in Beijing on November 9. This meeting will discuss, “major issues concerning comprehensively deepening reform”.2 One of the major issues that is expected to be discussed is the area of rural land reform. It is being speculated this meeting will decide on whether the government grants the farmers ‘right to more money through trading their land’.3

    The Chinese President Xi Jinping met the Brazilian Vice-President Michel Temer in Beijing on November 7. President Xi Jinping called for unity and cooperation among the emerging markets. He also asserted that there is a need to build and strengthen cooperation and close exchanges between the two sides.4

    The Chinese Ministry of National Defense stated on November 7 that the United States is showing double standards with respect to cyber security. It argued that the United States is undertaking its own agenda while blaming other countries for cyber attacks. It further added that such double standards highly affect the peace and security of cyber space and also hurts the safety of internet.5

    The Chinese President met the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on November 7 in Beijing. Xi stated that China and Cuba have been close friends and they should work together and further enhance cooperation. He also added that China gives very high importance to its relations with Cuba and both sides to work together towards improving relations with countries in the Latin American region and the Caribbean region.6

    As a response to the question on November 7 related to the Free Trade Deal between Singapore and Taiwan the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lai said that Singapore should respect the One-China Principle. Hong said that, “Our stance on Taiwan’s external exchanges is clear and consistent. We do not have objections to foreign countries’ non-governmental trade and cultural exchanges but do oppose any official ties”. 7

    On November 6 the Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the Chinese military to uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China and advocated strengthened Party building in the military. He further added that the military’s loyalty to the Party is the ‘the soul and lifeblood’ of the Chinese PLA. He also asserted that party building is the core issue in the development of the PLA. 8

    In other developments, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hon Lei, the China’s special representative for the Korean Peninsula affairs Wu Dawei went to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on November 4. He will have discussions on the DPRK resuming the Six-Party talks and on de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. 9

    During his trip to Fuyuan county in Heilongjian province on November 5, Chinese premier Li Keqiang said that the reform of agriculture should respect the innovation and willingness of farmers. He also added that the main purpose of reform is to help in the well being of the farmers. 10 In addition to this during his visit to Hunan Province on November 3, the Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the main aim of the Party should be alleviating poverty with the help of targeted policies which should include agriculture and education. 11
