Russia delivers 12 Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopters to the United States for the Afghan National Army

  • According to reports, Russia’s defence export organization Rosoboronexport said on November 1 that it had completed deliveries of 12 military transport helicopters to the US government, destined for the Afghan National Army. The prime contract to deliver 21 helicopters was signed by Rosoboronexport and the U.S. Government on May 26, 2011. A total of 63 Mi-17V-5 helicopters will be supplied for the Afghan National Army in accordance with the agreements between Russia and the U.S. in a joint effort to combat international terrorism. The Mi-17V-5 military transport helicopter is a modern version of the Mi-8/17-type helicopters. Currently, more than 2,400 Mil Mi-8/17-type helicopters are in service with more than 80 countries. 1
