PM Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka stated in parliament that the government was doing its best to provide psychological support to the displaced people in the North.1 The UNHCR on its part approved a grant of $5 million to purchase machines in order to accelerate the de-mining program in the North.2
Meanwhile, reports noted that Home Minister P. Chidambaram discussed the issue of granting Indian citizenship to the Sri Lankan refugees with CM Karunanidhi in Chennai.3 The Indian Coast Guard also arrested 46 Lankan fishermen and seized six boats off the Nagapattinam coast.4
