Rafael bags a $1 billion deal to supply 18 SPYDER air defence systems

  • RAFAEL Advanced Defense System of Israel bagged a contract worth $1 billion to supply SPYDER air defense system to the IAF. The company will supply 18 SPYDER systems between 2011 and 2012. The system uses Python-5 and Derby air to-air –missiles and advanced radars and is capable of intercepting airborne threats within a 25-mile radius. ELTA, a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries is to work as a sub-contractor to the deal1.
