Strategic Analysis is the bimonthly journal of the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), New Delhi. It is published by Routledge, an imprint of the Taylor & Francis Group, United Kingdom.

The Journal provides a forum for independent research, analyses, and commentaries on national, regional and international security issues that have policy relevance. It seeks to promote a better understanding of Indian thinking on contemporary national and international themes. The Journal reflects a diversity of views from the strategic and international relations studies community both from within and outside India. The flagship in the IDSA stable of publications, Strategic Analysis began as a monthly journal in April 1977 and served as a medium for publishing commentaries on current events. From early 1987, its contents came to include both research articles as well as commentaries on national and international developments. It was transformed into a quarterly, refereed, journal in 2002. Routledge has been publishing the journal in a bi-monthly format since January 2007.
Scholars and analysts are welcome to submit well-researched papers for publication in this refereed journal.

Current Issue: November-December 2023
The November-December issue of 2023 carries articles exploring themes which have an important focus on security, geopolitics and regional dynamics. Manish and Aditya Mani examine China’s response to Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover in August 2021, focusing on the implications for the BRI. The article uncovers China’s nuanced sentiments—balancing optimism and caution amid the prevailing uncertainties surrounding the Taliban regime. Bipandeep Sharma posits that the Antarctic is emerging as a new space for geopolitical contestations amidst politicisation of discussions during annual Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings and emerging aspirations of countries to dominate the region thereby posing challenges to Antarctic governance. Ariel Sabastian Gonzalez Levaggi examines the South Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific regions as case studies within the framework of Maritime Regional Security Order (MRSO), shedding light on intricate interaction among local and extra-regional powers. Van Huy Duong writes that though Vietnam and China share a cooperative bilateral relationship, it is fairly complex characterised by mature asymmetry, encompassing ‘both cooperation and struggle’. The Archives section, assesses the turmoil in West Asia, particularly Afghanistan and Iran in the 1970s and 1980s, at the peak of the Cold War when the Superpowers were jostling for military presence and strategic influence in the region.
