    Senior Research Associate, IDSA, Dr Rajiv Nayan spoke on Trends in the Multilateral Export Controls Regimes and India in an Export Control workshop on ‘Managing Trade in Strategic Goods and Technologies in the Asia-Pacific’. The Workshop was organised by Pacific Forum CSIS and the Institute of International Relations, National Chengchi University, Taiwan in Taipei from June 17-19, 2012.

Gillett, along with Brig (Retd) Devinder Singh, VSM (of Kargil fame and a former researcher of IDSA) and Lt Gen (Retd) YM Bammi met Director General IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta on June 19, 2012. They discussed on mutual cooperation to expand knowledge about the activities and policies of ICRC, among the researchers and members of IDSA.

Panetta’s recent visit to India and his remarks on US’ re balancing towards Asia-Pacific and its implications, as well as the outcomes of the third India-US Strategic Dialogue held in Washington DC.

    Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta and Research Fellow, IDSA, Dr Uttam Sinha, who were on a week long visit to Norway and the Barents Region from June 11-16, 2012, visited the Russian town of Nikel as part of the Barents countries cooperation and interacted with local officials in the villages of Zapolyarny and Korzunovo on June 15, 2012.

We recognise that China has a critical role to play in advancing security and prosperity in this region”

    A 13-member delegation from Australian Defence College, led by Comdt Maj Gen Craig Orme Orme, Commander of the College, visited IDSA on June 4, 2012. The delegation comprised civil and military officers from Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam. IDSA scholars provided perspectives on Asian Security (S. Kalyanaraman), Maritime Challenges in the Indian Ocean Region (S.S. Parmar) and the situation in Afghanistan (Vishal Chandra).

    A four-member delegation led by Director General IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta concluded a week long visit to China from May 29 to June 3, 2012. During the visit, Dr Gupta addressed the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR Forum) on the theme ‘The Future of Afghanistan and Regional Cooperation’ with an Indian perspective. He also led the IDSA delegation in the bilateral dialogue and interaction with scholars from CICIR that was led by its President Mr Cui Liru. Bilateral, regional and international issues were discussed.

    A five member delegation led by Director General, IDSA, Dr Arvind Gupta signed an MOU with the Institute of Strategic Studies, Mongolia during the first bilateral between Meeting. During the bilateral, India- Mongolia relations were discussed and future areas for cooperation were explored. It was decided to broaden the interaction between the two think tanks at the academic level and institutionalise academic exchange.
