    According to reports, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa congratulated India’s Prime Minister designate Shri Narendra Modi on his landmark win and invited him for a state visit to Sri Lanka. 1

    Reports noted that Central Government of India has extended its ban on the LTTE for five more years on May 14, 2014. 2

    According to reports, China and Sri Lanka agreed to further enhance the strategic mutual trust between the two countries and elevate the relations between the armed forces to a new level, when a high-powered Chinese defense delegation called on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on May 16 at Temple Trees. The Chinese delegation led by General Xu Qiliang, the Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission, is China's highest military delegation ever to visit Sri Lanka. 3

    In other developments, according to reports, two Bangladesh ships "Ali Haider" and "Nirmul" arrived at the Port of Colombo on May 16, 2014 on a goodwill visit. The two ships are en route to join United Nation Peacekeeping Mission in Lebanon and replace the two ships currently serving there- BNS Osman and BNS Madhumati. 4

    Reports noted that Major General Prasad Samarasinghe has been appointed as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Army with effect from May 17. 5
